Thu – Feb 2nd – More work on Coordinates in all four quadrants

LEARNING OBJECTVIE: How to plot a point on a grid in four quadrants

LEARNING OBJECTIVE: To revise level G (and some F) number work, focussing on number work.

You will be confident and well practiced with all of the following number problems

  • All times tables up to 10's
  • Multiplying and dividing by 10, 100, 1000
  • BODMAS
  • Understand Place Value
  • Round numbers to nearest 10, 100, 1000
  • Adding and subtracting up to 4 digits using column method
  • Multiplying and dividing by single digits
  • Representing Fractions
  • Adding/Subtracting Fractions with same denominator
  • Equivalent Fractions
  • Adding/Subtracting Fractions with different denominators

STARTER:
Times it out – play as a class and then freeze IWB and get individuals to play for 5 mins each throughout the lesson


LESSON:
Continue to work through Chapter 5 & then Chapter 6 of text book you MUST Complete ALL questions in an exercise before you move on
work around room marking students work, supporting students at their desks...

Ongoing Individual Activity at Teacher Machine / ON Laptop - Times it out - get individuals to play for 5 mins each throughout the lesson

EXTENSION: Move on through rest of this chapters in a similar way – have a go at a couple of questions if too easy move to ext question if not practice more questions.

Tues Jan 24th – Volume of a Prism

LEARNING
OBJECTVIE: To use knowledge of area to find the volume of prisms

SUCCESS
CRITRIA: You will be able to find the volume of a prism

DEFINITION: A solid with two parallel congruent polygonal ends (with their corresponding sides parallel) and a number of parallelogram faces joining the two ends. If the ends and the other faces are perpendicular, then it is a right prism. If the ends of a right prism are regular polygons, then it is a regular prism. 
A triangular prism has triangular ends; a square prism has square ends, etc.

STARTER: Use screen 8 from this lesson as a starter Investigation. Test understanding of volume using screen 7 questions (repeat if necessary)

LESSON: Work through this prism Lesson. Show some more complex Prisims on IWB and how to solve them

Work through Ex 11D on pages 252 and 253 of Higher Text Book.

EXTENSION WORK: Pages 66, 67, 68 & 69

Monday 23rd Jan – Sorting information (data) into tables and bar charts

LEARNING OBJECTIVE: To understand how to sort information into tables and then display it correctly as bar chart

SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will be able to create tables and bar charts from raw data

STARTER: Use this lesson activities with students once they are settled

LESSON: Continue with the sorting data theme using this lesson

GO back through the lesson and show how to draw bar charts of the first few tables we created.

Draw a bar chart for ALL the tables we created from the second lesson.

PLENARY: Checking answers with students from Mymaths screens, and supporting students at tables.

Mon Jan 9th – Fixing a point on a flat surface using X and Y coordiinates

LEARNING OBJECTIVE: To Devise your own system for describing where something is on a square grid

SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will be able to use a coordinate system to fix things on a flat surface

STARTER: Can you describe how to get to each of the separate objects on this grid from the start point in the bottom left hand corner.

LESSON: Encourage Discussion about describing where the animals on the grid are in answer to the tarter question

Stop at the letter grid screen and after doing the on screen Questions can you decode this message
