Fri Mar 1st - Putting COllected Data into a Frequency Table

LEARNING OBJECTIVE: To Develop understanding of data stored in a frequency table

SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will be able to answer questions about data stored in a frequency table and also create a frequency table from ollected data

STARTER: Maisie the Mouse  No. 38

LESSON: Work thorugh this Mymaths Lesson on Frequency Tables

If time get pairs of students to collect data and create a frequency table for the following Data Sets:

1. Eye Colour of everyone in the room (Olivia, Alex, Rebecca and Courtney)
2. Month of Birthday of Everyone in the room (Oliver, Cameron and 
3. Car colours of cars in the car park that you can see out of the window (Jordan, Matthew, Lucy and Kyle)
4. Number of brothers and sisters (one total) each person has (Ellie and BobbyLeigh and Bethany)
5. Shoe Size of Each Person.( Connor, Lucas and Lewis)

For each of the data sets you must do ALL of the follwoing
1. Create a tally table to collect your data
2. Create a Frequency table of the results of your data collection.
3. Draw a Bar chart of your information.

Monday 25th Feb - Range and Median

LEARNING OBJECTIVE: Discover how to compare two sets of dta using the median and the range

SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will be able to work out the range and median of a set of data and use it to compare the data with another set of similar data.

LESSON: USe this MyMthas Lesson and Exercises to devop the idea of a median value. Use the questions screen a couple of times on screen altogether, then hand out worksheets for them to practice finding medians with - encourage copying out the numbers in order and then corssing out pairs of end points in succession to find the middle number (or numbers).

Extension work: USe FOundation text Books Ex 2B page 30 for median and Ex 2D Page 36 for Range

Fir 15th Feb - Algebra Substitution


LEARNING OBJECTIVE: Practise substitution into equations

SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will be able to solve algebra substitution level F questions

STARTER: Copy Date and Learning objective into exercise books, then Solve the Five Cards problem using the blank cards.

LESSON: HAnd out Algebra egg hunt game with dice and counters and explain the rules of the game - they can play in 2's or 3's.

Do a couple of example throws of the dice with all the class

Let them play the game  - first to pass the start 5 times wins.

SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will be able to substitute up to two values into a formula and then work out the answer.

on Feb 11th (P1 & 3) Review and analysis of Full test

LEARNING OBJECTIVE: DIscover how exam paper was marked and review topics that you got wrong.

SUCCESS CRITERIA: YOu will know which areas you need to to work on in order to imprive in order to get a better grade next time you are tested.

STARTER: Hand out test papers nad give students a chance to talk about results / compare answers around their tables etc.

LESSON: 
1. Write down totals to each question on the front of your exam paper and check that I have added them up correctly (you can use your calculator)
2. For each questoin, write down the topic of the question, then work thorugh the answer. Write any correct answers ornotes on your exam paper with your PURPLE Pen.

Where appropriate set some similar questions on IWB for student sto prcatice more questions

Fri 8th Feb - Toolkit test

LEARNING OBJECTIVE: Toolkit test, marking and review

SUCCESS CRITERIA: YOu will gain a higher mark than previous Toolkit Test

LESSON: 30 mins to complete the toolkit test, then makr test

SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will improve your grade in the toolkit test on Friday

STARTER: Put an assortment of toolkit test questions on IWB

LESSON: Work through rest of toolkit questions giving lost of examples and a chance to practice on their own
