Weds Nov 14th - converting between mm,cm,m, and Kms

LEARNING OBJECTIVE: Understand how the metric system works and be able to convert between mm, cm, m and kilometres

SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will understand how the metric system work and be able to convert between mm, cm, m and km

ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITY:
Write down the answers to these multiplication and division sums:
1. 4.5 x 10 = 45
2. 56.7 x 100 = 5670
3. 78.9 ÷ 10 = 7.89
4. 245 ÷ 100 = 2.45
5. 36 x 10 = 360
6. 67 ÷ 100 = 0.67
7. 789 x 10 = 7890
8. 67.3 x 100 = 6730
9. 0.78 x 10 = 78
10. 34 x 1000 = 34000
11. 5.67 ÷ 100 = 0.0567
12. 67.8 ÷ 100 = 0.678
13. 678.3 ÷ 10 = 67.83
14. 0.63 ÷ 100 = 0.0063
15. 7.8 x 100 = 780
16. 3456 ÷ 100 = 34.56
17. 456 ÷ 1000 = 0.456
18. 58.3 x 100 = 5830
19. 34.5 ÷ 1000 = 0.0345
20. 4.56 x 10000 = 45600

LESSON: Explain How the metric prefixes make a ladder or staircase, and that every staircase up is multiply by 10 and every staircase down is divide by 10
copies of staircase.

If corridors are clear and students well behaved move to a staircase and use the labels to mark the staircase and use walking up and down the staircase to solve these problems
